Choosing An Incubator


PRODƯ® offers different type of incubators with the capacities changing between 10 to 350 chicken eggs. All models are suitable different poultry eggs and different egg sizes.

"Capacity of incubator" and " Use Style "  are 2 important question to be answered in choosing an incubator.


Egg Incubation by using incubators

Egg incubation process with a egg incubator aims to obtain a chick in best possible quality from a fertile egg.

In an egg incubators, ventilation, temperature, humidity, turning and hygiene features must supply the needs of embryo with a harmonization.

To make easier to understand incubation process and usage of incubators, incubation period of an egg can be considered in two parts mainly depending on the turning needs.
     
First period of incubation -During this stage,the eggs need to be turned with a frequency.
Last period of incubation - for most species last 3 day of incubation, no need for turning.

In addition to difference in turning, in last period of incubation, egg needs a bit lower temperature and more humidity. These differences can change for different species.

All egg incubators in the world are basically designed with consideration of these differences between first and last period of incubation process.

Egg Incubators classified by Use Styles

Using 2 different incubator for first and last period of egg incubation

 *  ( SETTERS and HATCHERS)



In this type of usage, needs of embryo in first period and last period are supplied with separated incubators. The incubators ,which are supplying the requirements of first period ,are called SETTERS. and the incubators ,which are supplying requirements of first period, are called HATCHERS.


Prodi's (s) coded models was designed as SETTER.
And (h) coded models was designed as HATCHERS.

As using setter and hatcher type modes, eggs are firstly set to Setter having a turning system and hold there during first period of egg incubation. Then they are transferred to Hatcher for last period of incubation, generally last 3 day of incubation. Therefore, all the needs of embryos in first and last period of incubation can be controlled exactly and user can reach maximum hatchability and chick quality.
Setter and Hatcher capacity ratio depends on the user egg setting frequency. Eggs can be set partially to SETTER with a frequency of 4-5 days and can be chosen a HATCHER model with lower egg capacity than SETTER capacity.

This type of incubation is ideal and best way of incubation however using two machine means that the first investment cost will be higher.

   
Using one incubator for first and last period of egg incubation

* COMBINED EGG INCUBATORS


Combined Type Egg Incubators
are the most favorite incubators in the world. In these models, setter and hatcher parts are combined in one cabinet. The needs of eggs are supplied with unique machine. This models are generally preferred for eggs that need very close humidity values in first and last period of incubation like chicken, quail, turkey, partridge, some pheasant and duck specie's eggs.

Eggs are set partially to setter part with a frequency of 4-5 days and transferred to hatcher part for last 3 day of incubation. In this way, user can set eggs freshly to incubator.

In these models, user can do setting and hatching processes at the same time and even set different type of poultry eggs to incubator by considering hatcher part capacity and hatching times of chicks.

Please remember that egg storage more than 7 day after lying gives cause hatching problems because egg quality will decrease after this time rapidly. This is why eggs are partially set to combined type egg incubators with a frequency of 4-5 day.


*ALL SET - ALL HATCH MODELS


Prodi' s PD10h, PD30h and CT Series (s) coded models can be used as ALL SET - ALL HATCH Models with Prodi's hatchery accessories.

In this type of incubation, the incubator are firstly used as a Setter and then used as a Hatcher for last period of incubation.

This type of usage is ideal for the users that are supplying fertile eggs from an outer source. Also, the user can only be set the eggs which have same incubation time.

The users having own stock and producing own fertile eggs must not choose these type of incubation because they will have to store new laying eggs during all incubation period of eggs in the incubator so the stored eggs will loose quality to incubate and so will face bad hatching results. Don't forget that egg storage more than 7 day after lying gives cause hatching problems because egg quality will decrease after this time rapidly. Such users must prefer using combined models or using separated setter and hatcher models.
